1940 - Cahill was born in New York City of Irish-American parents.

1968 - He received an M.F.A. in film and dramatic literature from Columbia University.

         - Cahill has taught at Queens College, Fordham University, and Seton Hall University.

1996 - He authored the book "How The Irish Saved Civilization: The Untold Story of Ireland's Heroic Role from the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Medieval Europe".

1999 - He wrote "The Gifts of the Jews: How a Tribe of Desert Nomads Changed the Way Everyone Thinks and Feels".

2001 - He wrote "Desire of the Everlasting Hills: The World Before and After Jesus".

2004 - He authored the book "Sailing the Wine Dark Sea: Why The Greeks Matter".

2006 - He wrote "Mysteries of the Middle Ages".
