Byrns, Joseph Wellington (Joseph)
1869 - Byrns was born in Robertson County, Tennessee on the 20th of July.
1894-1898 - He displayed a strong early interest in politics and was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives.
1900 - He was elected to the Tennessee State Senate.
1902 - He ran for district attorney of Davidson County, Tennessee.
1908 - Byrns received the Democratic nomination for U.S. Representative .
1928 - He was chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
1931 - He was appointed chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee.
1933 - He became House Majority Leader.
1935 - He became Speaker of the House.
1936 - Byrns was Speaker when he died in Washington, D.C. on the 4th of June.
