1796 - Born on November 18th in Edgefield, South Carolina. American judge and politician.
1817 - Attended Doctor Waddell’s Academy at Willington, Abbeville County, South Carolina, and graduated from South Carolina College at Columbia.
1818 - He studied law, admitted to the bar and practiced in Columbia, Edgefield, Lexington, Barnwell, and Newberry.
1824 - He was a member of the State Senate.

1833 - Appointed judge of the session court.
1835 - He was a judge of the State court of common pleas.
1846 - He was appointed and subsequently elected as a States Rights Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of George McDuffie.
1854 - He was elected as a Democrat.
1857 - Died on May 25th near Edgefield, South Carolina.
