1954 - Born on December 26th in Cambridge, Massachusetts. American musher and sled dog racer.

1974 - She moved to Alaska when she was 20 to begin training and racing sled dogs.

1978 - Butcher drove the famous Iditarod Trail race for the first time.

1979 - She first made headlines, when she and Joe Redington Sr. became the first musher to drive a sled dog team to the top of Mount McKinley, North America's highest mountain at 20,320 feet.

1984 - Butcher finally won the big race. She was the second woman to win, after Libby Riddles, who had finished first the previous year.

1985 - Married to David Monson in September 2nd.

1986-1988 - Winner of the Iditarod sled dog race.

1990 - Winner of the Iditarod sled dog race.

1994 - Butcher retired from competition because she and her husband, Davis Monson, wanted to have children. They subsequently had two daughters, Tekla and Chisana.

2005 - She was planning to come back to take part in a 300-mile race when she was diagnosed with leukemia in December.

2006 - Died of cancer on April 5th in Alaska, U.S.A.
