Jeb Bush Resigns from All Board Positions

Many people with even the slightest interest in politics have been wondering for several years about whether or know Jeb Bush—the brother of George W. Bush and son of the ‘first’ Presidential George Bush—would be running for president of the United States in 2016. Bush’s own response has been varied and at times, vague—he has often stated that running is something that may be of interest to him and that it may be in the cards, although recently he did announce that he was “considering” running for the position.

It may be more than a consideration, however, in light of the fact that it was recently announced that Jeb Bush has resigned from all of his board posts or positions.

The positions he resigned from where all of his non-profit board member positions, as well as his corporate positions. Bush recently resigned from the board of Rayonier Inc., where he was on the board for real estate development. This recent rash of resignations even includes the board position from his own education foundation; he may even be considering resigning or transferring ownership from businesses that he owns, or is a principal partner of--including his own consulting firm, Jeb Bush & Associates.

These moves put even more weight behind Jeb Bush’s announcement earlier in December of 2014 that he would be putting together a political action committee during the earliest part of the New Year. This political action committee would have the goal of finding out whether or not there is enough political and financial support to make a run for president viable; it is often used by politicians who are not sure whether they should run in the next election, wait to gather more support, or simply forego the idea of running for President altogether.

Jeb Bush may have some more significant backing than other Republican candidates for two reasons: namely, the fact that he is a member of the Bush family, who has produced not one but two presidents of the United States; and because of his time as the governor of Florida. Bush served as the governor of the state from 1999 to 2007, although the impact that this has on his potential presidential race may depend on how people really perceive the quality of his run as governor.
