1914-1916 – Became an assistant attorney for a power company in Salt Lake City, Utah.

         – Was an attorney for a power company in Boise, Idaho.

1917-1918 – Served in the army as lieutenant, and later as captain during World War I.

1919 – He resumed the practice of law in Cleveland, Ohio.

1923 – Became an instructor in Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.

1928-1929 – Was a member of the board of education of East Cleveland.

         – Became a member of the State house of representatives.

         – Director of law of Cleveland.

1935 – Elected as mayor of Cleveland.

1940 – Elected as a Republican to the United States Senate.

1964 – Died on October 28th in Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C.
