1923 – He was born on the 20th of February.

         – He attended the prestigious and the colony’s elite Queen’s College.

1942 – He won the Guiana Scholarship as the colony’s top student.

1948 – Burnham received a law degree from the University of London.

1950 – Burnham, along with Indo-Guyanese labor leader Cheddi Jagan, established the People’s Progressive Party.

1952 – He became the president of the party’s affiliated trade union, the British Guiana Labour Union.

1958-1961 – Burnham went on to form the People’s National Congress entering its first election under that name.

1964 – He was premier of Guyana.

1966 – He became prime minister of Guyana .

1980 – He was president of Guyana.

1985 – He died on  the 6th of August.
