1825 – Burnett was born in Essex County, Virginia on the 5th of October.
1847 – He was admitted to the bar.
1855-1861 – He was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives as a Democrat.
– He was expelled from the U. S. Congress because of his support of secession.
– He was later the colonel commanding the Eighth Regiment, Kentucky Infantry.
– He represented Kentucky first in the Provisional Confederate Congress and later in the Confederate States Senate and served that body throughout its existence.
He resumed the practice of law, but died soon after the conclusion of the Civil War.
1866 – He died on the 1st of October.
