Burnet, David Gouverneur(David)
1788 - Burnet was born in Connecticut Farms, New Jersey on the 14th of April.
1806 - Burnet wanted to join the U.S. Navy. He soon escaped and on the 2nd of February, he was the first American volunteer to serve the unsuccessful revolt led by Francisco de Miranda for the independence of Venezuela from Spain.
1817 - Burnet attempted to establish a trading post at Natchitoches, Louisiana, to trade with Comanche Indians.
1826 - Burnet received a land grant on 22 December. Unfortunately, he was not able to raise the needed funds to bring the families to Texas, and he was forced to sell his share in the grant to finance their passage.
1830 - He married Hannah Este on 8th of December in New Jersey.
1833 - Burnet was a delegate to the Convention.
1836 - On the 5th of September, Texas voters elected a new president of the Republic of Texas—Burnet's political enemy Sam Houston.
1838 - On the 16th of November, Burnet reappeared in Texas politics when he was appointed Vice President of the Republic of Texas on the ticket of Mirabeau B. Lamar.
1866 - Burnet was elected to the United States Senate from Texas, following the American Civil War, but the Radical Republicans refused to seat him and the other Texas senator Oran G. Roberts due to Reconstruction politics.
1870 - Burnet died on the 3rd of Janurary in Killeen, Texas at the home of Mrs. Preston Perry.
