1889 - Born on May 7th in Newport, Rhode Island. American banker and administrator.

1953 - Appointed as deputy to the United States Secretary of the Treasury by Dwight D. Eisenhower.

1954 - He was tapped by President Eisenhower to become Undersecretary of the Treasury for Monetary Affairs.

         - His papers relating to American monetary policy, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and others are in collection at Stanford University.

1957-1961 - He was the U.S. Ambassador to NATO.

1978 - Died on September 16th.
