Burg, Avraham
1955 - Born on January 19th in Jerusalem. Israeli politician.
- Avraham Burg is one of the senior members of the Israeli Labor Party.
1985 - He was appointed by then Prime Minister Shimon Peres to serve as his adviser on Diaspora Affairs.
1988 - Burg was elected to the Knesset on the Alignment Party List, where he was a prominent member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, the Finance Committee and the State Control Committee.
- He served as the speaker of the 15th Knesset and as Chairman of the Knesset Committee on Education, Arts and Sports, of the 13th Knesset.
1992 - Burg was re-elected to the Knesset, having placed third on the Labor Party list, after the late Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres.
1995 - Burg left the Knesset to become the Executive Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel.
- He founded the Open Midrasha Center for Jewish Studies, fought against changes to the law of return, and was a member of the Neeman Commission on conversion.
1999 - He was elected Speaker of the Knesset.
