1900 - Luis Bunuel Portoles, born on the 22nd of February in Calanda, Spain. He was a Spanish film director.
1928 - As a student at the University of Madrid he met Salvador Dalí, with whom he later made the Surrealist film Un chien andalou.
1930 - 1932 - He then directed the anticlerical L'Âge d'or and the documentary Land Without Bread.
1950 - 1958 - After working as a commercial producer in Spain and a technical adviser in Hollywood, he moved to Mexico, where he directed Los olvidados and Nazarín.
1961 - He returned to Spain to make Viridiana, which was suppressed in Spain as anticlerical but internationally acclaimed.
1967 - 1977 - He attacked conventional morality in such later films as Belle de jour, Tristana, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, and That Obscure Object of Desire.
1983 - Died on the 29th of July in Mexico City, Mexico due to Cirrhosis of the Liver.
