1799 - He was born in Concepción on the 25th of December.
1818 - At the age of 16 he was imprisoned as a revolutionary by the Spanish authorities, but was soon released, and joined the army of San Martin under whom he served as colonel throughout the Chilean War of Independence.
1820-1823 - He accomplished the temporary conquest of the Arucanian Indians.
1831-1838 - He was appointed brigadier general, commanded the Chilean army, sent against Gen. Santa Cruz in Peru.
1841-1851 - He served as the president of Chile.
1866 - He died in Santiago on the 18th of October.
