1739 – He was a Keeper of the Jardin du Roi (later Jardin des Plantes) in Paris.

1773 – He was named as Comte (Count) de Buffon.

1783 – Became a fellow at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

1788 – Died on April 16th in Paris.

         – He wrote Histoire Naturelle, Générale et Particulière and Les Époques de la Nature.

1853-1855 – Posthumously published Oeuvres Complètes de Buffon.
