1908 - He won an appointment to West Point from President Theodore Roosevelt.
1919 - Buckner returned to West Point as an instructor.
1932-1936 - He became instructor and Commandant of Cadets.
1944 - In July, Buckner was sent to Hawaii to organize the Tenth Army, and prepare for the Battle of Taiwan, later to be changed to the Battle of Okinawa, the largest sea-land-air battle in history, which also turned out to be slow and bloody.
1945 - On the 18th of June, he was killed by enemy artillery fire during the closing days of the battle.
