1946 - He won his first term in the Florida legislature as a representative from Marion County and went on to serve five terms in the legislature.

1953 - Became the Speaker of the Florida State House of Representatives.

1961 - He was elected as Governor of Florida.

1966 - Bryant was appointed to the National Security Council and the Office of Emergency Planning by President Lyndon Johnson.

1970 - He ran for the U.S. Senate but was defeated in the runoff election for the Democratic nomination.

2002 - Died on March 1st in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida.
