1849 - Born on December 17th in Tranent. Scottish historian and educator.

1872 - He entered and took a degree in theology at Edinburgh University.

1890 - His 'George Buchanan, Humanist and Reformer' was published.

1898 - Became the editor of the Register of the Privy Council of Scotland.

         - He wrote "History of Scotland".

1908 - He was made Historiographer Royal.

1918 - Died on December 1st.
