Brown, George

1818 - Born in Edinburgh on the 29th of November.
1837 - He emigrated to New York City.
1843 - He moved to Toronto, where he began publication of the Banner, a newspaper supporting the newly formed Free Church of Scotland.
1853 - He began to issue The Globe, a weekly Reform political journal.
1857 - He entered the Canadian Parliament as an independent Liberal for Kent County.
1858 - Rebuilt the Canada West Liberal Party and briefly held office as prime minister.
1865 - 1867 - He resigned from the government and never again sat in the House of Commons, though he sought reelection.
1873 - He entered the Senate.
1874 - Helped negotiate a new reciprocity treaty with the United States.
1880 - Died in Toronto on the 9th of May.
