1795 – He was born on the 15th of August.
1814 – He graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was valedictorian of the class.
1821-1827 – He was a member of the Tennessee State Senate.
1831-1835 – He was the Tennessee House of Representatives.
1839-1845 – He was a member of the United States House of Representatives for three terms.
1845 – He won the Democratic nomination for governor and was elected.
1850 – He did not participate further in statewide elected politics, but was selected as a delegate to the Nashville Convention held at Nashville’s Maxwell House Hotel.
1852 – He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention where Franklin Pierce and William R. King were nominated.
1859 – He died on the 8th of March.
