1948 - Born on the 2nd of October in Evansville, Indiana.

1930 - His maternal grandfather Samuel Travis Crawford toured with the country singing group Delta Rhythm Boys.

1972 - He became tenured professor at the Mason Gross School of the Arts.

1980 - His television work includes the popular television series Spenser: For Hire where he played the character Hawk.

1989 - Brooks received his own, short-lived spinoff series, A Man Called Hawk.

1993 - He was named Artistic Director for the National Black Arts Festival, in association with Rutgers University.

2003 - He starred in a production of Oedipus that was performed in the Acropolis in Athens.

2006 - In August, Brooks voiced Captain Sisko in the PC and Xbox 360 computer game Star Trek: Legacy with his fellow Star Trek "Captains" William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula.

2007 - Brooks was part of a directors panel at a festival celebrating the work of Ntozake Shange at the New Federal Theatre on the 11th of February.

         - He was one of fifteen of the Shakespeare Theatre Company regulars to be awarded the William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre in March 2007.
