1928 - Born on August 4th in Virginia, Liberia. Liberian lawyer and diplomat.

1949 - Earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social science from Shaw University, Raleigh, North Carolina.

1952 - Received a Bachelor of Law degree and a Master of Science degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin.

1953 - She was accredited by the Liberian Supreme Court, as the first woman Liberian lawyer.

         - Brooks was admitted as Counselor-at-law to the Supreme Court of Liberia in August.

         - Served as Assistant Attorney-General of Liberia.

1954 - Served as part-time Professor of Law at Liberia University.

1956 - She was Liberia's Vice-President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers.

1958 - She had a career in government administration and legal education in Liberia before being appointed assistant secretary of state.

1959 - She served as the Federation's Vice-President for Africa.

1962-1967 - Earned her Doctor of Law degrees, from Shaw University and Howard University.

1969 - She became the first African woman to be elected president of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
