1920 – Graduated from Swarthmore College and received his B.A.

1926 – Received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

1929 – He was professor of medical physics at the University of Pennsylvania.

1936 – Became the director of the Institute of Neurology.

1949 – He was the president of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

1950 – President of the National Academy of Sciences.

1953 – He became president of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research (now Rockefeller University), New York City.

1975 – He died on November 17th.
