1980-1999 - Wrote the novels, Sundiver, Startide Rising, The Practice Effect, The River of Time, The Uplift War, Heart of the Comet, Earth, Glory Season, Brightness Reef, Infinity's Shore, Heaven's Reach and Foundation's Triumph.

         - Earned his PhD in Space Science from the University of California at San Diego.

         - Wrote his novel, The Postman also holds the distinction of having won the Hugo, the Nebula, and the John W. Campbell Awards, as well as a commendation from the American Library Association.

         - Published The Transparent Society: Will Technology Force Us to Choose Between Freedom and Privacy?.

2002 - Wrote his latest novel, Kiln People.
