1894 - Born on July 25th in Swampscott, Maryland.

1920 - Married to Ruth Wells.

1931-1936 - Starred in the films A House Divided, The Wedding Night, Man on the Flying Trapeze, Barbary Coast, These Three and Fury.

1938-1941 - Won three Oscars for Best Supporting Actor for "Come and Get It", "Kentucky" and "The Westener".

1957-1963 - Appeared in television as Amos McCoy in "The Real McCoy's".

1967 - Starred in the television series "The Guns of Will Sonnet".

1970 - Appeared in "To Rome with Love".

1974 - Died from Emphysema on September 21st in Oxnard, California and was buried at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, Los Angeles.
