Breathed, Guy Berkeley (Berke)
1957 - Born on June 21st in Encino, California. Cartoonist Berkeley Breathed, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of the comic strip "Bloom County," turned his attention to the millions of animals in shelters with his book, Flawed Dogs.
1980 - Academia Waltz appeared only in the university's student paper, but Breathed brought a few of its characters to Bloom County when the Washington Post started publishing and syndicating it.
1987 - Bloom County featured a talking penguin named Opus. It won a Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning.
1989 - Married to Jody Boyman, a nature photographer and psychotherapist.
- Breathed resurrected Opus and several other Bloom County characters in a Sundays-only strip called Outland.
2003 - Breathed birthed Opus, a new weekly strip.
