1847 – Born on May 26th in New York City. American Presbyterian clergyman, missionary, and Republican politician.

1874 – Graduated from Yale University.

1877 – He was a graduate of Union Theological Seminary.

1878 – He was the co-founder of Sheldon Jackson College.

1897 – He was the Territorial Governor of Alaska.

         – As governor, he pursued Native Alaskan civil rights.

1906 – Forced to resign as governor after an inquiry about his involvement with the Reynolds-Alaska Development Company.

1918 – Died of stroke on December 17th and was buried in Sitka, Alaska.
