Botvinnik, Mikhail Moiseyevich(Mikhail)
1911 - He was born in Kuokkala, Finland, near Vyborg on the 17th of August.
1927 - He qualified for his first USSR Championship, the youngest player theretofore seen at that level, and won the title of National Master at this tournament.
1930 - He won the Leningrad Masters' tournament in 1930 with 6.5/8.
1931 - At the age of 20 Botvinnik won his first Soviet Championship at Moscow, with 13.5/17.
1948 - He won the tournament convincingly, with a score of 14/20, three points clear, becoming the sixth World Chess Champion.
1957-1958 - He lost to Smyslov, but the rules allowed him a rematch without having to go through the Candidates' Tournament; he played a rematch and won.
1960-1961 - He lost championship to Mikhail Tal, but regained title in rematch.
1963 - He lost championship to Tigran Petrosian.
1995 - He died on the 5th of May in Moscow, Russia.
