1525 – Born on September 25th in Northam, Devon. English navigator.
1553 – Under the direction of Richard Chancellor he was master of the Edward Bonaventure, the first ship to round North Cape and reach Russia by the arctic route, and the only ship to return safely from the expedition.
1556 – Borough in a voyage, reached Novaya Zemlya and discovered the strait south of it leading to the Kara Sea.
1581 – He wrote A Discourse of the Variation of the Compas, or Magneticall Needle.
1584 – Died on July 12th.
