1903 – Born on May 22nd in New York, New York County, New York. He was a career diplomat and the last United States Ambassador to Cuba.

         – His father was Stephen Bonsal, a well-known Far Eastern correspondent.

1955 – He became U.S. ambassador to Colombia.

1957 – Served as U.S. ambassador to Bolivia.

1959-1960 – Became the last U.S. ambassador to Cuba (recalled after Fidel Castro’s alliance with Soviet Union).

1961-1962 – Served as U.S. ambassador to Morocco.

1995 – He died on June 28th in his home at the age of 92.
