Bolger, James Brendan(Jim)
1935 - He was born in Opunake, Taranaki on the 31st of May, to immigrant farm workers from Ireland.
1972 - He entered politics as the New Zealand National Party member of Parliament for King Country.
1975 - He became a cabinet minister under Prime Minister Robert Muldoon.
1977 - He served as New Zealand fisheries minister.
1978 - He was the New Zealand labor minister.
1978 - He became the New Zealand immigration minister.
1984 - He served as deputy leader of National Party.
1984 - He ran unsuccessfully for party leader.
1986 - He made a second attempt, and unseated Jim McLay as leader.
1986 - He was Leader of National Party.
1990 - The National won the biggest landslide in New Zealand history and he became prime minister.
1997 - Bolger was made a member of the Order of New Zealand.
2007 - He was elected Chancellor of Waikato University on the 14th of February.
- In April he revealed at a conference he is suffering from a painful nerve disease called trigeminal neuralgia.
