1842 – Born on the 24th of February in Padua.

 

Boito studied music at the Milan Conservatoire.

 

1868 – Premiere of his finished opera, Mefistofele, based on Goethe’s Faust at La Scala, Milan.

 

1875 – His second premiere was held in Bologna on 10th of April.

 

1881 – Premiered his revised libretto for Verdi’s unwieldy Simon Boccanegra.

 

1887 – He provided subtle and resonant libretti for Verdi’s last masterpieces, Otello and Falstaff (1893).

 

1889-1897 – Served as director of the Parma Conservatoire.

 

1918 – He died in Milan on the 10th of June and was interred there in the Cimitero Monumentale.

 

1948 – A memorial concert was given in his honor at La Scala.
