Bohm, David Joseph
1917 - David Joseph Bohm was born on the 20th of December in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
1939 - Graduated at Pennsylvania State College, then studied at California Institute of Technology for a year.
- Obtained doctorate degree in theoretical physics under Robert Oppenheimer at the University of California, Berkeley.
1942 - Offered him to work at Los Alamos, the top-secret laboratory to design the bomb.
1943 - Completed his Ph.D. while in Berkeley, teaching physics.
- He performed theoretical calculations for the Calutrons at the Y-12 facility in Oak Ridge.
- Became an assistant professor at Princeton University, where he worked closely with Albert Einstein.
1949 - The House Un-American Activities Committee called upon him to testify before it, because of his previous ties to suspected Communists.
1950 - Bohm was charged for refusing to answer questions before the Committee and arrested.
1951 - He was acquitted in May, but Princeton had already suspended him.
- Bohm left for Brazil to take up a Chair in Physics at the University of São Paulo.
- Wrote his first book, Quantum Theory and was published this year.
1955 - Moved to Israel, where he spent two years at the Technion at Haifa.
1957 - He moved to the UK as a research fellow at the University of Bristol.
1959 - With his student Yakir Aharonov, he discovered the Aharonov-Bohm effect.
- His wife Saral recommended to him a book by the Indian philosopher J. Krishnamurti.
1961 - Became Professor of Theoretical Physics at Birkbeck College London.
1987 - He continued his work in quantum physics until his retirement.
1990 - Elected Fellow of the Royal Society.
1992 - David Bohm died of a heart attack in London on 27th of October.
