1985-2003 - President and Chief Executive Officer of The Associated Press.

1990 - Boccardi was elected a fellow of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).

1994-2003 - Member of the Pulitzer Prize Board.

2001 - Awarded the John Peter and Anna Catherine Zenger award for Freedom of the Press and the Public's Right to Know.

2002 - Chairman of the Pulitzer Prize Board.

2003 - He was member of the Gannett Board of Directors.
