Bliss, Daniel

1823 - Born on the 17th of August in Vermont, one of the seven children of Loomis and Susanna Farwell Bliss.
1848 - Graduated at Kingsville Academy.
- He was admitted upon examination to the freshman class at Amherst College, Massachusetts.
1852-1855 - Attended Andover Seminary in preparation for the ministry and foreign missions.
- On October 17, he was ordained at Amherst, and in November was married to Abby Maria Wood.
1855 - Received appointment by the American Board and being assigned to Syria
1858 - Bliss were in charge of the Girls' Boarding School in Suq al-Gharb.
- He preached his first Arabic sermon on 12th of December.
1862 - First president of Syrian Protestant College (now the American University) of Beirut.
1902 - Resigned, being succeeded by his second son, Dr. Howard Bliss.
1916 - Daniel Bliss died on 27th of July.
