1813 – Born on the 10th of May in Franklin County, Kentucky, the son of Francis Preston Blair.

 

1835 – Graduated from the United States Military Academy.

 

       – He left the Army, studied law, and began practice at St Louis, Missouri.

 

1834 – 1849 – Became the judge of the court of common pleas.

 

1839 – 1843 – Served as United States district attorney.

 

1852 – He moved to Maryland and devoted himself to law practice.

 

1855 – 1858 – He was the United States Solicitor in the Court of Claims.

 

1857 – Associated with George T. Curtis as counsel for the plaintiff in the Dred Scott v. Sanford case.

 

1860 – He took an active part in the presidential campaign in behalf of Abraham Lincoln.

 

1861 – 1864 – Became the Postmaster General.

 

1868 – Democratic vice presidential candidate.

 

1883 – He died on 27th of July.
