1862 – Awarded America’s highest military decoration the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas on March 7th.

1886 – Chief defense lawyer for all eight defendants in Haymarket Affair trial.

1916 – Black died on 3rd of January at the age of 74.
