1924 - Joseph Black was born on the 8th of February.


1950 - Attended on a baseball scholarship and graduated from Morgan State University.


1952 - Became the first black pitcher to win a World Series game.


         - National League rookie of the year.


1998 - He was a board director of the Baseball Assistance Team and worked for the Arizona Diamondbacks.


2002 - Black died on 17th of May and was interred in Hillside Cemetery located in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.


Wrote a syndicated column, "By The Way," for Ebony magazine and an autobiography, Ain't Nobody Better Than You.
