1862 – Vilhelm Friman Koren Bjerknes was born on the 14th of March in Kristiania, Norway.

1890 – He became assistant to Heinrich Hertz and made considerable contributions to Hertz’ work on electromagnetic resonance.

1895 – He served as Professor of applied mechanics and mathematical physics at the University of Stockholm.

1907 – He returned to the University of Kristiania.

1912 – He became professor of geophysics at the University of Leipzig.

1917 – He founded the Bergen Geophysical Institute.

1921 – He wrote the On the Dynamics of the Circular Vortex with Applications to the Atmosphere and to Atmospheric Vortex and Wave Motion and laid the foundation for the "Bergen School of Meteorology".

1926-1932 – He held a position at the University of Oslo.

1951 – He died on the 9th of April.
