Birla, Ghanshyam Das
1894 - Born on April 10th. Indian businessman and philanthropist.
- Ghanshyam Das Birla, a doyen of Indian industry was the man who laid the foundations of the Birla Empire and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
1919 - With an investment of 50 lacs, the Birla Brothers Limited was formed and thereafter a mill was set up in Gwalior.
1920 - He established a cotton mill in Sabzi Mandi, Delhi followed by Keshoram Cotton Mills and Birla Jute Mills.
1930 - G.D. Birla set up Sugar and Paper mills.
1940 - He ventured into the territory of cars and established Hindustan Motors.
1957 - He was awarded India`s second highest civilian honour, the "Padma Vibhushan" by the Government of India.
1983 - Ghanshyam Das Birla died on January 11th at the age of 90.
