1785 - Born on the 15th of April in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
1817-1827 - He was elected to the North Carolina Senate.
1830 - Bethune rose to the U.S. House as a Jacksonian Democrat.
1831-1833 - He was a U.S. Congressman from North Carolina.
1834-1836 - After losing two additional attempts to return to Cognress, Bethune returned to his plantation near Fayetteville and resumed the practice of agriculture.
1874 - He died on the 10th of October. He was buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Aberdeen, North Carolina.
