
1774 – He was born on the 14th of September.
1791 – He joined the Coldstream Guards, rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
1803 – He was appointed Governor of Madras.
1814-1815 – He landed with British and Sicilian troops at Genoa, and commenced to make liberal proclamations of a new order in Italy which embarrassed the British government.
1827 – On his return to England, he served in the House of Commons for some years before being appointed Governor-General of India.
1828 – He was governorgeneral of British East India Co.
1835 – He returned to the UK, refusing a peerage, and again entered the House of Commons as a Member for Glasgow.
1839 – He died on the 17th of June.
