1963 - He received a Bachelor of Science in physics from University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.
1965 - Master of Science from the University of California, San Diego.
- Gregory Benford's first professional sale was the story "Stand-In" in Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.
1967 - Doctorate in University of California, San Diego, and the same year he married Joan Abbe.
1969 - He began writing a regular science column for Amazing Stories.
1980 - Wrote novel Timescape which won both the Nebula Award and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award.
