Bell Burnell, Susan Jocelyn

1943 - Born on the 15th of July in Northern Ireland.

1965 - She graduated from the University of Glasgow with a B.Sc. in physics.

1969 - Received her Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge.

1968-1991 - Worked at the University of Southampton, University College London and the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh.

1967 - She discovered 1st known pulsar.

1989 - She delivered a Swarthmore Lecture under the title Broken for life, at Yearly Meeting in Aberdeen on August.

1991 - Professor of Physics at the Open University for ten years.

1995-1997 - She served as Clerk to the sessions of Britain Yearly Meeting.

2001-2004 - Dean of Science at the University of Bath.

2002-2004 - President of the Royal Astronomical Society.

2006 - She revealed her personal religious history and beliefs in an interview with Joan Bakewell.

2007 - She served on the Quaker Peace and Social Witness Testimonies Committee, which produced Engaging with the Quaker Testimonies: a Toolkit in February and wrote the introductory essay.

       - She is currently a visiting professor at Oxford University.
