1879 – Gifford Beal is a painter, etcher, muralist, teacher, was born in New York City.

1892 – studied at William Merritt Chase’s Shinnecock School of Art (the first established school of plein air painting in America).

Educated at Princeton University and was among many artists who trained with the renowned American

Impressionist painter William Merritt Chase.

1939 – Completed a series of ten murals for the Post Office in Allentown, one of many such projects commissioned under the WPA.

Beal painted Hiding the Liberty Bell in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
