James Phinney Baxter III was an American historian, educator and academic.
1937-1961 - Served as President of Williams College.
1943 - Part-time official historian of the US Office of Scientific Research and Development.
1948 - Won the Pulitzer Prize for history, for his book Scientists Against Time.
Grandson of historian and mayor of Portland, Maine, James Phinney Baxter.
