Bates, John Lewis
1859 - John Lewis Bates was born 18th of September in North Easton, Massachusetts.
He attended public school in New Bedford, Chelsea, Taunton, and eventually the Boston Latin School.
1882 - Attended the Methodist-affiliated Boston University, earning an A.B., and went on to graduate from
Boston University School of Law.
1887 - Married Clara Elizabeth Smith on 12th of July.
1894-1899 - Served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
1897-1899 -Became the Speaker of the House from Massachusetts.
1900-1903 - Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.
1903-1905 - Elected Governor of Massachusetts.
Bates retired to his private law practice in Boston.
1917-1919 - Bates was a delegate to the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention.
1946 - John Lewis Bates died 8th of June.
Member of the American Bar Association of the Freemasons, the Odd Fellows, and of Beta Theta Pi.
