Basov, Nikolai Gennadiyevich
1922 - Nikolay Gennadiyevich Basov was born on 14th of December in the small town of Usman near Voronezh.
1941 - Basov was called up for military service and directed to the Kuibyshev Military Medical Academy.
1943 - Left the Academy with the qualification of a military doctor's assistant.
1945 - Entered the Moscow Institute of Physical Engineers where he studied theoretical and experimental physics.
1950-1953 - Basov was working on his thesis at the P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Academy of Sciences.
1952 - Dr. Basov began to work in the field of quantum radiophysics.
1955 - Organized a group for the investigation of the frequency stability of molecular oscillators.
1957 - Started to work on the design and construction of quantum oscillators in the optical range.
1959 - Awarded the Lenin Prize together with A. M. Prochorov for the investigation leading to the creation of molecular oscillators and paramagnetic amplifiers.
1962 - Dr. Basov was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the U.S.S.R.
1964 - Basov won the Nobel Prize in Physics with Aleksandr Prokhorov and Charles Hard Townes.
1968 - Basov and his associates have succeeded in observing for the first time neutron emission in the laser-produced deuterium plasmas.
1967-1990 - He was elected a Member of the Presidium of the Academy.
1970 - Dr. Basov was awarded the rank of Hero of Socialist Labour.
1973-1989 - He serves as Director of Lebedev Institute.
2001 - Nikolay Gennadiyevich Basov died on the 1st of July.
