1769 – James Barron was born in Virginia.
– Served in the Virginia Navy during the last years of the American Revolution.
1798 – Received a commission as a Lieutenant in the new U.S. Navy.
1800-1801 – Promoted to Captain and commanded the frigate Warren
– Served in the First Barbary War in the Mediterranean and supervised the construction of a gunboat.
1807 – Commanded the frigate USS Chesapeake as a commodore in the US Navy.
1820 – James Barron challenged Stephen Decatur to a duel.
1839 – Continued in the Navy on shore duty, becoming senior officer.
1851 – James Barron died in Norfolk, Virginia on 21st of April.
