1874 – Ernest William Barnes was born 1st of April.


1893 – He was educated at King Edward’s School, Birmingham and Trinity College, Cambridge.


1897 – Ernest William Barnes was placed in the first division of the first class in Part II of the Mathematical Tripos.


1902 – He was appointed a lecturer in mathematics.

1906-1915 – Barnes was ordained deacon by the Bishop of London and served as Junior Dean of Trinity.
