
1923 – Agatha Barbara was born on the 11th of March in zabbar, Malta.
She was educated at the grammar school in Valletta.
1940-1947 – Worked as a school teacher.
– Barbara became the first woman elected to the Maltese parliament.
1955-1958 – Served as education minister of Malta in the Labour Party government of Dom Mintoff.
1958 – Served 43 days in prison "with hard labour", for picketing during a national strike.
1971-1974 – she served once again as Minister for Education.
1982-1987 – Became President of the Republic of Malta and the first and only woman to hold this post.
2002 – She died 4th of February at her residence.
2006 – A monument in her honour was unveiled by the President of Malta Dr. Edward Fenech Adami in Zabbar.
